Tour Itinerary

Full Day

Pickup at the hotel will be around 9.00. We will first visit the award-winning Campos de Solana winery, that brought the high-altitude wine of the region to be highly recognized in Latin America and worldwide. Located at 1850 m above sea level, the Campos de Solana vineyards produce grapes with a special flavour and aroma due to the high exposure to sunlight. We will explore the winery and learn about the wine-making process and then we will have the chance to try some of the locally-produced wines before we move onto the next stop.

We leave Campos de Solana and drive to Casa Real, famous for being the best producer of the national liquor of Bolivia: the singani. Founded in 1981, Casa Real is a family-run business that quickly established itself on an international level. Of course we will have the time enjoy some singani during the visit before we get back on the bus and move to our next winery, the Casa Grande, for another wine-tasting session. From Casa Grande we will then head to Casa Vieja.

On the way to Casa Vieja (located in the Concepción valley a little further from Tarija) we will also stop at the ‘’angostura’’ (literally ‘’narrowness’’), a curious natural attraction where the hills of the area fall apart opening up to the flatlands (now cultivated vineyards) on the other side. We arrive at La Casa Vieja at around 11.30. This is very popular amongst Bolivians for the way the degustation is arranged: you will make a circle and begin your wine-tasting session starting from the bitterest white wine to the sweetest red wine going through a total of 10 different varieties, plus the final singani. There will be only one glass of wine going around and you will just need to take a sip of it before passing it to the person on your right. After this you will have time to purchase as many bottles of wine as you want with the help of the friendly staff. Lunch will then be served.

After lunch our tour continues to two more wineries: Las Duelas and Sausini. Las Duelas is a unique place located in the Calamuchita valley where you can taste not only their homemade products but also wines coming from other small villages of the region. There are varieties of wine that can only be found here. Sausini is another high-quality bodega that started importing grapes from France and worked hard for more than 10 years to acclimate the vines to Tarija’s soil, altitude and weather, in order to be now able to produce their own unique products such as their Gran Singani.

We will back in Tarija at around 17.00.

Important Information

• This tour can leave every day except for Sundays. The above itinerary is valid only from Monday to Friday, whereas for Saturday tours the following will apply:

In the morning, the itinerary might follow a different order and Casa Real is usually visited before Campos de Solana. Programme is subject to changes depending availability of each establishment. You might have to postpone the quick stop at the ‘’angostura’’ till the afternoon.

In the afternoon, the Sausini winery will not be available for visits and you will visit another bodega, Valle D’Vino, instead.

• The guide that will be on the bus with you and that will lead you for the whole duration of the tour speaks some English and will be able to give a general explanation in English, but it won’t be as detailed as the Spanish one. In each bodega there will be a knowledgeable person from the staff who will take you around the establishment, but he or she will be unlikely to speak any English, if not a basic one. Please take this into account. We do not accept complaints of this nature.

• Price depends on group size. Please check the booking form at the bottom of the page to get the final price.
